Top Gear Series 7 Episode 3

In I-want-one-of-those Top Gear, we took three supercars to France. Clarkson went for a spin in the Ford ASBO. And Minister for Transport Dr Stephen Ladyman dropped by to drive the reasonably priced car.

The Ford Focus ST – its name is ill-chosen, but there’s no denying it’s fantastic. This is THE car to talk about in between pints of beer while watching the match.

So which supercar makes you drool? The Ferrari F430, Ford GT, or Pagani Zonda? The Ferrari isn’t as extrovert as some, but by golly it’s good. The Zonda is like a lion in orange dungarees: fierce, but ridiculous at the same time. Then there’s the Ford GT – as wide as an aircraft carrier with almost as much firepower.

Although the GT was quiet, it’s huge, doesn’t like corners, and drinks petrol like a rugby team drinks beer. Driving the Zonda is like piloting a road-going West-End musical. And the Ferrari, while slowest, was fast enough to scare most normal people. James was petrified.

Dr Stephen Ladyman MP came along to put the case for safe sensible driving. Unfortunantly, no-one seemed to have told him that and he put in a scorching lap on our test track.

Challenge: Super Car road trip to Millau Viaduct, France.
